Creatures in nature do it, why can’t we humans?

Brightly colored Finches, little birds of the air

Finding their mate, show that they care

By flying through life in all kinds of weather

They’d never consider not sticking together!

Little Red Foxes in a cozy hole

Show that they’re solid as ice at the Artic Pole!

They choose their mate in the prime of their youth

And never re-mate, and that is the truth!

Gourami, tiny tropical fresh-water fish

Selects one mate and for no other does wish.

When their mate dies alone they roam

Through the tepid channels of their jungle water home.

The greed we have cuts our marriages like a knife

This is why we can’t keep our mate for life.

Great poem! We can mate for life, it just takes work, and at least one of you has to act like a grown up. We are so quick to give up when we are not “happy”. Marriages fail when we think of marriage as a contract instead of a covenant.
