Life and love are full of choices to be made
Some you may have handled well
Some you may have not
But here you are, the result of all of them

Elsewhere might have been a better place
Unless, of course, it turned out to be far worse
There is no way for you to know that now
For steps never taken only lead to nowhere

You cannot know those other choices either
The ones that didn’t come your way at all
Once you have made one single choice
All the others no longer do apply

In love I have made my several choices
One, for sure, was a disaster in the making
Till finally a wiser choice did intervene
And mature thinking became my better guide

I chose a wife many years ago
At times I have questioned, and so has she
But what followed from that single choice
Has been a life of happiness and love
