Sipping my tea.

As I sat in the shade, sipping my tea,
I watched the sun set on my perception.
I was lost in thought of what used to be,
And what had brought me to this destination.

When he sat down, I could not tell you,
Lost as I was in my own reflections.
He ordered a drink and cleared his throat,
He spoke with wisdom’s expectations.

“Every sunrise marks a new beginning,
A chance to move past mistakes we have sewn.
At the end of the day, as time is slowing,
Every sunset marks an achieved milestone.”

“You should take the time to remember the past,
So as not to repeat a mistake.
But also reflect on the accomplishments made,
And be proud of the strides you make.”

He asked for a cigarette and a light,
And silently sat, sipping his drink.
His weather lined face was familiar,
A memory on recognition’s brink.

As he left, I watched him recede,
from time and my consciousness.
I may not remember who he was,
But his words were pure truthfulness.
