A lot of people have a favorite holiday. Most would say it’s Christmas, Halloween, or Easter- maybe some like Valentine’s Day. I prefer celebrating the new year, myself. Something about dropping the ball at midnight almost wipes the slate clean, stoking a fire of hope that died down through the old year. No one ever really gets to "start over" – but on New Year’s day I feel like I could try.

I can’t wait for the new year
Because it’s a brand new start
Makes me want to lift my head
And raises up my heart

For one brief, shining moment
Things seem to be the way they should
Out with the old, in with the new
Get rid of the bad and find some good

It may not scare off the creditors
But it fills me with good cheer
I’ll make my resolution
To have a better year this year

I like New Years too and I love poetry. I don’t know if I can be objective, but I know what I like and I like this.

I, too love New Years because its refreshing and washing away the bad things of the past year. I forget them and go on with my year.

I loved this poem. Short and direct. You got your point across directly in a very good way. Great work and i hope to see more from you soon.

You’re right, the New Year brings a brand new start — recommitment to goals, and a fresh perspective in life. This is a very insightful article.
