A poem I wrote dedicated to one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen, and hope to see again!
New York City
Oh dear New York City,
How I dream of meeting you again.
I’ve only seen you once,
A moment so short lived.
Your tall buildings make it hard to tell what time of the day it is,
Your bustling streets filled with honking horns and people’s heavy footsteps.
Your loving hot dog stands providing quick lunches,
And your beautiful Central Park gives you that touch of nature in a concrete jungle.
My beautiful city,
I’d die just to see your skyline once more.
How I long to take a stroll on Broadway and catch a good show.
How I long…to be a part of your hustle and flow.
This small town girl,
Who grew up hardly knowing you,
Fell in love at first sight,
And pines to see you again.
To live in your skyscrapers,
To breathe in your fast-paced spirit.
An adrenaline rush so thrilling,
A desire that desperately needs filling.
Yours is a beauty like none other,
Others might call me crazy.
But then again,
That’s Love!
If I could just see you again,
I’d stay for a very long time.
I’ll never leave your side,
And take your subways for a ride!
I’ll grant Miss Liberty a visit,
And take a wallet friendly spin on Wall Street.
I’ll pay homage to your ghostly towers,
And capture Brooklyn’s most famous bridge.
I’ll savor Brooklyn-style pizza made right at home,
And pick up hundreds of nick-naks in China Town.
I’ll visit Time Square’s perfect imagery,
And the light show at Madison Square.
I’ll bring home plenty of your treasures,
On second thought…
I’ll send the treasures home,
And I’ll stay here.
I heart NY,
The famous logo that never ceases to be right.
New York City…I’ll see you again,
And this time I’ll stay!
