News is largely from the blogosphere with increasing cutbacks and layoffs at newspapers. The Internet, spin, and propaganda are on the rise.

We’re witnessing the collapse

Of newspapers

That are essential in America

- – -

In their place is the rise

Of the blogosphere

That is mostly opinion

Lacking in objectivity

And facts checking

- – -

Information has become

Mainly spin and propaganda

That are ruling the day

It’s shock and awe

That dominate

Mainly like in the tabloids

- – -

Because of these trends

The underpinnings of our republic

Are threatened

Because we’re starting

To lack the ability

To govern ourselves

- – -

We’re already witnessing this

With gridlock

In the halls of Congress

- – -

What have happened

To the progressive views

On the press

Voiced by our founding fathers

Like Washington, Jefferson, and Madison?

- – -

Are their insights all dumped

And discarded into the rubbish heap

Of our new technological age?

Our computers have spell check and we can check for grammatical errors. Too bad our technology can’t verify whether information is factual or not.

The advent of the internet is not good for the traditional newspapers. However, this pave the way for the informal writers to offer an alternative for news and info dissemination.
