A day and a time of my life that I value.

Today is the best tomorrow it could have been,

No more brightly colored rubber balls out in the courtyard,

Children used to play in freshly cut grass…oh, the smell!

And let popsicle juice run down their arms to their elbows.

I wish that you could scratch my back for me,

You do it so much better than my brother who hates to scratch my skin,

I remember that evening when we wrapped up in that cool, roped-weave blanket

And your masculine body heat kept me warm and I felt much loved.

Last evening, we gathered round the bar, and Travis mixed the drinks,

Always in the kitchen, we love to congregate and gossip but only out of love,

Then Trav and Chris and I will go out back and sip the alcohol, philosophizing and solving

The problems of the world, over and over again….if only we could remember our solutions.

The night fell like a thick, black velvet blanket, comforting through our cold and scar-filled lives,

We slept in each other’s arms, reusing jeans, and woke to morning…happier and at serenity,

Night is split, and daybreak shines through the crack, warm sunlight on my skin in their apartment,

Ah, six years ago, the memories were so close and filled with rum, and a little laughter and hugs.
