A look at lonely days.

Wolves of wind howl to me,
seeking egress through vents.
through pipes and chinks in the brick.
Singing melancholy melodies. whispering
sibilant sorcery that begs to take
shelter in the marrow of my bones.
Pulling the blanket over my head
I seek solace from their keening, only
to have their voices poke fingers
under my shelter; tugging at the layers
I burrow deeply beneath.
Moaning of unseen spirits prick my
consciousness to shallow levels
between reality’s frozen wall and
dreams of deep forest mountains.
My fitful sleep rests not my weary bones
half-ill with age.
