A poem on the impacts of our species on the environment.
Rainforests
were the quintessence
of silence,
their ancient trees
stood soundlessly like sentinels,
always watching,
Rainforests
were the greatest harbour
of beauty,
wild at heart,
yet as peaceful
as the moon,
And amongst
these green asylums,
behind
the tangled labyrinths of vines,
there was a home,
a home for all life,
Animals ambled to and fro,
bounding happily
through the undulating grass,
plants enjoyed the shade,
as well as the fiery rays
of the sun,
But then came a monster,
a contraption of evil
Trees fell violently,
giving
one last helpless groan
before crashing down,
flowers
were mercilessly obliterated
The monster had:
a huge shovel
for a face;
four wheels
for limbs;
and a metallic bulk
as a body
And this silver dragon
destroyed
all in its path
Later it was followed
by myriads
of others,
all machines alike
all wreakers of havoc,
Now,
nine Years later,
there are no more animals
and there are no more trees.,
Now,
nine years later,
there is no more forest,
and there is no more home,
Desolation reigns,
for the rainforest
is destroyed,
and the flaming heart of life
extinguished.
