Here are two poems I wrote for a university portfolio, hope you enjoy them.
Noir (Nighthawks Detective?)
Another beautiful blonde
Dead
In bed.
They said
Not for love,
But money.
A violent row
Between client
And service,
Boundaries broken.
Another sleepless night
In rain, fog, and halogen
Black and white light.
The wife at home
Cold and alone.
Buy flowers
From the gas station
In the morning.
Hotel Prospect
There was a time
When this town
Meant something
To people.
You can see it
In those old
Black and White
Photographs.
Smiling,
Hand in hand,
Walking along the pier.
Donkey rides on the beach.
Now everything’s closed.
Shuttered up.
Growing old, with the people
Who live there.
And the only ones on the beach are
Teenagers, burning rubbish
Or drinking cheap cider
From plastic bottles.
