A beautiful poem by Frost.

Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost

From this poem, I can see the beauty of nature and the circle of life as well. The rhyme scheme is simple too, which is AABBCCDD. For me this rhyme is simply beautiful in my perspective. From my point of view about this poem, literally, while reading this beautiful poem, I enjoy the imagery; the green plants, flowers, leaves and the picturesque of dawn and day. Through my reading from the internet, ‘green’ in this poem means the first mark of spring and that means the assurance of life of something or perhaps someone. In New England birch and the willow are all gold-like colored, not green in color. Thus, we might say that green is a sign of spring while gold is the fact.

Meanwhile, Eden or also called as the Garden of Eden is the place where Adam and Eve lived in. Another definition of Eden is a place of unspoilt happiness. So, from here we can say that Eden means a happy place desired by people. When Frost wrote ‘Eden sank to grief’, he means that even the beautiful and happy place will not last forever. In the context of Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve lived there for quite a while, however, they were sent to Earth by God. That was how their life has ups and downs and so are we, their next generation.

The ‘sinking’ of happiness however shows a blessed thing when we ourselves accept our life the way the nature does. For example we grow from children to adult and finally old, just like we are following the cycle of flower, leaf, bud and fruit. We also experience loss, grief, happiness and also change. From here, Frost is right. Everything in this world has to come to an end. Human dies someday and so do the Mother Nature. Even though this poem sounds melancholic, it is a good poem that reminds us that someday, we are going be gone from this world. When it comes to death, there is nothing more that we can do in this world. So, I have learned that I will live my life to the fullest, be nice to the people I loved, be a good person, learn as many things that I can and always convey my love and affection to my loved ones. As a matter of fact, we don’t know when our time will come because ‘nothing gold can stay’!
