This poem is about me wrestling with that little devil that lives on my shoulder.
Impure thoughts
Be gone from my mind
Though you’ve burdened me before
This time is much stronger.
It’s wrong
By any standard
What you want me to do.
I can’t imagine
What you want me
To imagine
I can’t say
What you want me
To say
I can’t yearn for
What you want me
To yearn for
So go away.
I tell myself
It’s just a daydream
And it is
I wouldn’t
I couldn’t
Act on it
It isn’t right.
Still…
My heart aches for it.
Nobody can see it
I know
Nobody knows
But me
I only hope the rain
Can wash away my sins
God
Help me sleep tonight.
