This poem is based on one of my old fond memories of one of my classes.
The disgusting odor of formaldehyde.
The grotesqueness of the body bare.
All of the incisions,
Some mistakes
With eyes wide open
Mouth gagged,
The surgery takes place.
Did it hurt, O’ Cat or Kitten?
When you died, I mean.
Does it hurt you still now?
When you, in your body bag
Deprived of air and suffocating?
Did it hurt when you got your breath again?
Were you scared, O’ Cat or Kitten
When you were brought back to the live?
Only for dissection instead of family,
And love?
And instead of a shelter or home,
Thrown onto lab tables with disgust?
Why do they do this to you, O’ Cat or Kitten?
Why do they kill and use you like this?
Is it because you were homeless?
Then why not those human homeless in the street?
Is it because you got put in the pound?
Then why not the humans in prison?
I know, unfortunately why, O’ Cat or Kitten.
It’s simply because O’ Cat or Kitten,
That you are not human.
