Even Christ had to learn obedience to death. Since he had never sinned, he had to yield himself to taste the ugly cup of sin and death for all mankind!
“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;” Hebrews 5:8
“But made himself of no reputation, and took on him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:7,8
Obedience may pleasure cost,
Deprive of earthly things, a host,
But what is really, truly lost?
You’re learning to obey!
Obedience may crush your pride,
And make you feel real small inside,
But big in the eyes of the One Who died,
That you’re learning to obey!
Obedience may problems cause,
For others in the family clause.
May give the willful offenders pause,
But you’re learning to obey!
Obedience may peril create,
You may never live at Naboth’s gate,
And glean of the dainties that he ate,
But you’re learning to obey!
Obedience cedes popularity,
With those who would be friends with thee,
But friends who will stay are rarity,
When you’re learning to obey!
Obedience may change your plans,
The things you would do with your own hands,
Just remember Jesus understands,
When you’re learning to obey
Obedience may mean poverty,
No riches of great royalty.
The King has walked on this same street,
You’re learning to obey!
But, oh, the effect when you obey,
Great joy in your heart from day to day.
You’ll be glad you yielded to his way.
You’ll be glad that you obeyed!
To what extent did Christ obey?
Became a man and died one day.
Yielded completely to the Father’s Way,
In this did the Son obey!
From distress to deliverance, from punishment free,
All this His obedience gives to me,
Not a sinner but a saint for Eternity,
Since Christ as a Son did obey!
Salvation is mine, I obeyed the call.
Surrender is joyful, my life, my all.
Separation that others by my life won’t fall,
And service to Whom I obey!
