Another tropic delight that astonishes the senses – Hibiscus.

Let me take you away on another hot trip,
Into tropical gardens a mere fillip,
Hibiscus a blooming in tropical light,
A fleur of bright colour in day or at night.
Name me a colour; I’ll match it with these,
Hand me a billion; if they make you sneeze,
No perfume, big petals and boldness I see,
Perfect in steeping rejuvenating, hot tea.
Red, the colour, is commonly found,
Named flor de Jamaica or rose mallow round,
Malvales with pistils as pointy as prongs,
With petals like paper and stamens like bongs.
Common enough if you’re strolling my street,
Open or bunched are those blooms at my feet,
Pluck a hot flower from this lowliest bush,
A statement, a moment; the strongest of putsch.
I’ll leave you now with bright thought you must spare,
On Hibisceae Malvoideae – beyond all compare.
