A kernel created by Torvalds in ninety-one, add in Stallman’s GNU for extra fun…
Oh, GNU/Linux, how shall I boot thee?
Let me name the ways:
Debian, Fedora, Slackware, Gentoo,
Down with Microsoft, Free Software stays,
Mandriva, Knoppix, openSUSE, Ubuntu,
The distros will thrive while Windows decays.
Interested? Well, here’s what to do:
Boot from a disk,
There’s really no risk.
Just try it, it’s free,
No registration or product key.
Ubuntu’s a good start, find salvation in its forum,
But conduct yourself with the utmost decorum.
When you’re experienced, give Gentoo a try,
After compiling begins, just try not to die.
For old computers, use DSL,
Which can run on a flashdrive as well.
For web servers, run Apache,
Cause IIS goes Kamikaze.
It’s a programmer’s haven, and you can tell,
that you won’t get caught in DLL hell.
Time to pick a text editor, emacs or vi?
Oh wait, real programmers would use a butterfly*.
What about programs? How do I get those?
No applications–what a problem that would pose,
Well, in Gentoo, just compile from source
With Ubuntu, sudo apt-get, of course
Yes, GNU/Linux really does have it all
It’s a one of a kind system, a real hall-of-famer
Using it among your friends will make you stand tall
Oh wait, you’re a gamer?
