A very sweet Schnauzer has something she needs to say…

Can’t you see the hurt in my eyes?
What have I done to offend you so?
I am truly sorry for all of my failures
And it’s important to me that you know…
This heartache deep within me
Will never go away…
And even though it is you
That put it there
It was at your side I
forever wanted to stay…
But you gave me away
To someone else no longer
wanting me around
And even though my heart
Was breaking and tears
Spilled down my nose
I left your house quietly
I didn’t make a sound…
Too many mistakes I had made
Was the reason you gave
As they came to take me away
And I hope I’ll never again
Be as sad as I was upon
That day…
Thankfully my new family
Loves me just the way I am
And forgives the wrongs
That I do
Maybe it’s because they
Are human and realize
That I am human too…

    Nick,

You bring me to tears and I don’t need to cry anymore. I hope you and Jan are the new family. Katie was an unwanted abused dog because she is part pit-bull. She is the most gentle and loving dog we have ever shared our life with. And Kole loves her to death. Did you see their pictures? If not look at my babies.

Awww, I’m sorry Pam! Yes, Jan and I adopted Spice and her sister Pepper. They’ve both bonded to us deeply and are sweet girls. One can just look into Spice’s eyes and see the pain there… but we love her and cuddle her everyday. They’ll never be hurt again, either of them. I’ll go look at your babies now…

    Nick,
Like Icy, I too have been moved to tears.People who haven’t had a pet don’t know what they’re missing. Dogs and cats too have feelings that can be hurt. they too can love and give love. Its absolutely is unbelieveable how many people don’t know this. Like humans, they’re hearts can be broken too. This has got to be one of your very best Nick. I’ve read it six times now. This poem goes far beyond excellent. Its absolutely fantastic. I love your animal stories and can’t wait to read the next one. Keep up the good work, Nick!!!!!!

What can I say? This poem is really beautiful. Thanks for your love

  • Nick Kenney on Aug 22, 2008

Thanks so much Randy and Eunice…
There are far too many pets that are being abused and neglected.
God created them for us to love and share our lives with.

How sad. It’s a shame that people who don’t appreciate animals are allowed to own them. They give them away as soon as the novelty wears off.

I am glad you and Jan have him, now he is home.

  • Nick Kenney on Aug 22, 2008

Yes, it is a shame Darlene… it happens all too often

Good to know a nice new home has been found.

Pets aren’t disposable. When I lived in NY there was a pet adoption place that actually made you qualify to adopt one of their pets. Not a bad idea.

Nick, your poem is very touching, and I am sure that your inspiration is appreciative.

Poor Spice…whenever Jan grooms her she cries and screams before Jan even touches her with the clippers. Jan thinks she was beaten everytime she was groomed before we got her…I’d like to beat the people that do that to animals, see how they like it…I have no use for anyone that abuses an animal, children, the elderly, handicapped, women…or anyone else that cannot defend themselves.

I have a very high strung child (Liddy B.) and she has eaten everything from toliet paper to curtains (which includes a entire dining floor of carpet). She is now 3 years old and has cost me more money than I could have ever imagine but there is no way I could ever give her up. I know that no one would ever understand her as I do.

The meaning of this is perfectly clear as you state a case for being accepted and by others. The rhyme started out great but then the pattern seems to have drifted, but it still remains a very good read for its clarity and meaning. Michael

So many people do not think before they take a pet into the home. You tell a sad story here, but a happy ending. thank you for posting such a personal write.

You had me worried to start with but I knew nothing bad would happen in the end. 4 legged family members are the best kind! You speak for all animals.

  • Nick Kenney on Nov 29, 2008

You bet they’re the best kind! The most loving too!
