advance and approach the choir
with slovenly smiles pasted on
sweaty and greasy faces,
they have an off pitch accapela to intone.
choristers with sore throats,
aching from years of singing wrong tunes;
exhausted conductors confused from
reading volumes of tuneless measures,
sweat from brain aches.
then the master composer
standing at the pewter
conscious of his mouth odour,
tunes the song in pitchless notes.
