This is a poem about a fallen tree I once loved.
Oh! Glorious tree
the mysterious wonder towering over me
Your lonely branches’ whisperings
of ancient souls, of priests and kings
and deadly secrets waiting to be told
and winter’s breath of snow so cold
Your aging beauty spoke of eloquence
and your extended arms exuded joyful scents
You were dear to me, and I could see
your powerful majesty issue the decree
“I shall be!” Oh, you had been
until I heard the cruel machine
a murderer with destructive saws
I thought you could escape those roaring jaws
But, alas, your steady trunk came tumbling down,
and settled on the forgiving ground.
That day I wept, for I could feel
a gnawing emptiness that could not heal
But! By chance I saw your vanquished throne
and glanced upon a small bud, fresh and alone.
I smiled.
