An offbeat poem
Take it as you will.

Oh how he loved it, this excitement he knew

The plague was much more of a risk then the flu

How alive he felt, living on the edge

Out of the dredge

That was forced upon him by society

He relished in his audacity

He wanted to tell the world

How good taking a risk felt

With a danger dealt to them

So he ran through the streets

Concrete slapping his feet

Yelling and shouting at the top of his lungs

Singing a song of daring that just had to be sung

He gathered a crowd of eager people

Yearning to hear what he was talking about

So he took them to a park,

Jumped on a rock and yelled “Hark

Look how alive I feel, how full my soul is

Without the whole risks ruin life philosophy

I can actually say, that I enjoy where life is going to take me today

I have the plague

Isn’t that just grand?”

The people fell into a hush

Whispers began in the small woodland

What an unexpected speech

Surely a breach

Of the rules that governed them today

A wave of dismay washed through the crowd

This man was not to be trusted

He was going to get busted

For treachery and treason

And for good reason

The men and women who ran this society

Frowned upon people who didn’t like propriety

So the crowd around out friend Mr. John Hemingway London Rockne Knivel Dickey Wayne

Pulled him down the street and around the corner

And decided that the best thing to do was get rid of this horror

So they threw him in front of a train

Our friend Mr. John Wayne

But his loss was not for naught

For through his speech, one person was brought

Over to his point of view

That maybe a risk now and then

Was better then living perfectly, through and through

Maybe one day

This young boy

Will lead the way to a life

That will fulfill him better then his safe toys

Wouldn’t that be nice?
