This poem I wrote after my grandmother had passed away when I was 10. The night after my grandmother’s funeral I was looking up at the sky and noticed but one bright star shining down through my window.
Oh little star of mine
You shine so bright
In the starry night
From afar and down below
You still shine
That is how I know
That, that is where you are
From yonder and afar
That is how I know
Oh little star of mine
That I wish upon every night
And as I lay I glare into the dimness light
Of your bright starry glow
I think of the good times
And the bad times
How I was
And the way I was
It was rough
And it was tough
But the only thing I knew
Was that I made it through
So I look upon you now to let you know
I have to let you go
I say this with sadness
And gladness
Because I have made it through
The rough times
And the tough times
From the strength given from you to me
And should I ever look upon you again
For any reason at all
I know you’ll make me think and recall
The rough times
And the tough times
Not to make me sad
But to make me glad
That I had you
Oh little star of mine
So far up where you are
Oh little star of mine
