This is a piece I started working on quite awhile ago, while I was watching our goldfish swimming in their aquarium and feeling a little unsettled by something going on in my world.

Oh, to be a goldfish in an aquarium
Swimming from one side of the tank to the other
No need to worry about what to eat
Food is provided every day of the week
Their water and tank is cleaned regularly
Bothering no one and no one bothers them
Watching the goldfish playing in their aquarium
One feels calm and relaxed
In some aquariums, however;
There are sinister characters hiding somewhere
Just out of sight
Waiting to strike
When you least expect them
Do not close your eyes or turn your back
Never relax
For you know that they will eventually strike
With a sting that is sharp and painful
Designed to cut and maim
Is this how your aquarium seems to be?
Mine appears that way at times
How do you avoid this circumstance?
Make sure you fill your aquarium
With friendly and playful goldfish
Who enjoy a friendly dance
