A Valentine from Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, to George Washington, the 1st.

Oh Washington, dear Washington,

With your wig so powdered and white,

I write this meek and humble note

To you this lonesome night.

You do not know me by my name,

Nor have you seen my face,

But here I sit upon your land

In honor of your grace.

At this present time I tour the land,

Spreading forth my word,

Praying, for the League of Nations,

That my reasoning will be heard.

I wish for the grandeur you once possessed

When you once were full of life.

I wish for a single meeting with you

To ease this horrid strife.

I’ve dreamt of resting in your arms,

Safe in your embrace.

If only I could see you now

To touch your weathered face.

All your scars, your imperfections,

Change not how I view you.

But now, my dear, sweet president,

I bid you now…adieu.
