What the heck does that mean? The phrase originates from a WWII song which told the tale of damaged warplane just barely making it back to base. So, simply put, "On A Wing and A Prayer" means in poor condition, but still managing to get the job done.

Coming out of the battle

Through the fire

On a wing and a prayer

Battered and bruised

Wounded and bleeding

Limping and in need of a crutch

I fought a good fight

Stood my ground against all odds

Defeated the enemy

They seemed to come from everywhere

Often disguised

As friends and loved ones

I emerge victorious

On a wing and a prayer

Broken but not destroyed

Very nice. Really liked it. Like how you explained what Win and a Prayer actually meant, because I was thinking the same thing, when I click on here.

    Loved the poem

I hate to say it, but although I saddened you have gone through much lately, it has sharpened your poetic spear in the process and tempered your steel.

This is very good. Keep it up!

I’ve always been told that we have to GO through in order to GET through. Once done, we emerge victorious on the other side.

Your poem was really good an inspirational. I admit that I have heard on a wing and a prayer before, but I had no idea what it really meant until now. You can be knocked down, but you have to pick yourself back up again.

The poem has great power. The poet is ‘broken’, but not ‘destroyed’. The fire of prayer is enough to sustain her. thanks for sharing this sacred poem composed spontaneously.

Your words are proof of the courage you have to face your fears. You are plodding along and doing a fine job with poetry in the process.
