A horse ride I enjoyed…
I sat on a bronze horse with mane speckled with gold dust
My feet securely in the stirrups, my body on horseback
With reins held in my clenched fists and butterflies in my stomach
It was a royal beast but looked quite docile beside its owner
My rusty lessons churned in my mind, a whirlpool of knowledge
I took control of the reins, shifting in the saddle , head held high
And with a gentle push nudged the steed forward to a gallop
As if a switch of a robot had been activated it ran
Its feet leaving clouds of dust in their wake
As they swiftly ran at lightening speed feet barely on earth
As if floating in air and blown forward I clung to the reins
But fear turned to excitement and thrill as I laugh aloud
To dispel the vestigial traces of engulfing, enshrouding fear
Tentacles of the Venus fly trap had miraculously opened
I sat in the saddle as the panorama was left behind
As though a film was being re-winded in a vast amphitheatre
It was all sinews and powerful muscle in prime of youth
And as it kissed the blowing gusts of breeze
And ran across the fields of golden mustard blossoms
The turquoise hills edging the horizons beckoned
As we splashed through the tranquil waters of the lake
With lotuses in bloom and swans sailing in majestic vanity
My hair was flying in the air , shimmering like black silk in sunlight
And surely some cliched poet would have thought
Of the moon peeping through dark strands of clouds
Birds in flight crossed my cheek twittering confused greetings
At last it halted at its master’s threshold the faithful horse
If just a bit sheepish at the scare it had given me
Now it looked into my eyes its doe eyes mutely apologetic
But little did it know the thrill of adventure I had enjoyed…
