A poem about the impermanence of life and the vagueness of memories.

Long walks
with only moonlight
along dirt roads is
what I will remember
from my youth
not waking up with my
condom still on
or no condom at all
or friends laughter
or the sensation
of feeling
the soft, supple breast
of a young woman
or the smoky haze in
my bathroom
with the fan on
but only the
scraping
of my shoes as they
fall on loose gravel
because these are the moments
where life turns off
and all there is
is my breath
and my heart
beating in unison.
