A knights tale.
My horse stood it’s ground, perfectly still,
Blocking our way were soldiers guarding a hill,
I sat bolt upright on my horse and addressed these men,
I asked them to ’stand aside’ as my fight was not with them.
A soldier leaning on his unsheathed broad sword,
Stood up tall and walked downward,
He stopped about two yards away,
And asked who I was, and did I want to die today.
I raised my visor to show him my respect,
And asked him once, once only to reflect,
‘Now then soldier, about your descision to bar my way’,
I order you to move or it will be you who will die this day.
He laughed and said he had twenty men,
So I told him, when I’m done he should count them again,
‘Do you have a name’ oh my brave knight,
‘Your too good a man to die in this fight.’
‘So turn your horse around and go another way,
‘I will say nothing to no one that you yeilded this day.
So I drew up my sword from my horses side,
‘In another world we would have been good friends’ I cried,
‘But you know I am going through this way,’
It’s a shame your a good man but you will die on this day.
I spurred my horse to run to this man,
I slash his arm, as hard as I can,
Then stopped and turned and looked at my foe,
‘I will not kill an injured man, ‘that you must know.’
‘So I will bid you good day and hope get well,’
‘Don’t say nothing to your soldiers as I will not tell,’
‘you are a brave man and good so you shall not die,’
We will share our food and conversation when I next come by’.
