For Angie, my best friend. She died when we were 36 yrs old. We never got to say goodbye, we had been tied at the hip since the age of 3, a lifetime of friendship, gone. We make friends, but your best friend (aside from your soulmate, husband, or lover) is special, they are your sounding board, you are their support, you laugh when others don’t understand the joke and like my friend and I, you make daisy chains and plans. Sometimes we take them for granted, this is to remind you all not to do that.

It takes time to make a friend
the sort of friendship that will never end
but when death comes and takes away
the dearest friend of everyday
what’s there for you to do?
What happens inside to you?
Do you rip out your heart and cry with pain?
knowing never will you laugh again
with the friend you love so much
knowing there will never be another touch,
this friend may not have been a lover
but there will never be another.
A best friend of many years
in seconds can reduce you to heartbreak tears
no more gossip on the phone
going to your places, now alone
wanting to chat a while
just to see the other smile
what do you do when you lose a friend
you know the pain will never end
the memories will help you through
there is nothing more that you can do
those of you who have a friend
call them now, your love do send
let them know you love and care
because tomorrow, sadly they may not be there

Sad but I can totally relate. I have now lost 2 of my best friends I have grown up with. It seems to me its like the good people always seem to be taken away first. Excellent poem and very moving.

So sorry for your lost, friends are the better part of life. I would be lost without Maggie and Annie. They are my dear friends.

Wonderful poem. I am so sorry about your loss. I don\\\’t know what I would do if I lost my best friend. Thank you for reminding us all not to take for granted those wonderful people in our lives.
