An older poem of mine, dedicated to the concept of vampires, inspired more or less by the Queen of the Damned. It’s not particularly chiselled, because I was much less experienced back then, but I hope you enjoy it.
I) I remember the stars were shining,
And the moon was large and bright
All the castle lay in slumber,
On that cold February night.
I alone paced through the hallways,
Dragging my long, black dress
Thinking of life, and death and longing,
For someone to end my distress.
II) Then I heard you, and your soft breath,
You were waiting at my side,
Your gaze piercing my heart, my mind
Your burning eyes, so tempting, so wild.
I gasped as you came towards me,
Wearing that awfully beautiful smile
I jumped when you took my hand,
And felt your frozen lips on mine.
III) My mind was running, my body lay still
As you touched my stiffened neck,
And brought me close, so close until
I felt shivers down my back.
Your eternal smile turned to a grin,
And malicious fangs lengthened
To the wall you had me pinned,
And fed from my blood, ignored my scream.
IV) Starring helplessly at your crimson eyes,
Anger rising, death approaching
Cursing silently all your lies,
As you sit there smiling.
And then you did your sacrilege,
You created our immortal tie
You gave me your blood, your knowledge,
You should have let me die.
V) I drank and learned, and I saw hell,
My body dying, my heart crying
The temperature rose, my pain as well
When your blood stopped pouring.
You soothed me with your gentle voice,
While I was torn by pain
Red venom now ran through my vein,
My fangs appeared, I’d gone insane.
VI) “Welcome to your new life, a life forever”,
He whispered, as thirst burned my core
I opened my eyes and looked right at him,
With blood lust screaming “More!”.
But then I looked upon a mirror,
And with tears came the rage, the anger
For the sixteen year-old girl over there,
Was to me a nameless stranger.
VII) Resigned, you approached me,
And you lay in my shaking hand
A gift of silver, it’s blade I could see,
The beginning of our war never to end.
And as we met through our eyes,
My dagger hung heavily at my side
In you I saw passion, loneliness and lies,
In me you saw hatred, sorrow, mental suicide.
VIII) “In time you’ll see, immortality is very cold alone,
But you’ll always know me in your heart and mind
And one eternal day, you’ll join me on my throne,
Accept your dark legacy, and leave it all behind.”
“No, monster, you murdering demon!
You will stay away from me from now on,
Leave me out of your sick dream
And leave me in my suffering alone!”
IX) And there he left me, he flew away,
I also turned and fled
To live my curse, to find my way
To my family I was now dead.
The sky was dark, the moon was gone,
No more large and proud and bright
I dragged my dress, my long, black gown,
Away from that cold, February night.
