Poem about unrequited love. As a teenager, I met a girl that I thought was the one. So, as any teenager would do, I decided to ask her out and with plenty of persuasion and excuse, she agreed. Here is how the day went. Not very well you would agree.
One fateful Winter’s day
When time had ceased and the hour appeased
As I struggled for words to say,
With greetings warm my feelings she teased.
Was this my finest hour
Or was it the gravest day of all?
Little she knew of the power
That overcame my very soul.
By gentle persuasion I tagged along
On cloud nine beside this rose,
Her aura of dissuasion too strong
For my feeble efforts to oppose.
Besotted with every move she made,
Undeterred by doubts cast,
I observed her interest fade
As our first day had passed.
I planned and plotted with restless toil
To win this creature’s heart
But all my efforts she sought to foil
So eager for us to part.
My wisdom consumed by beauty
And my mind hurled into despair,
Barely intact was my sanity
As she dismantled my spirit layer by layer.
Like brother and sister out we went,
Her gazes void of love or passion,
Though she in glee and I in lament
Every minute I tried to ration.
I failed to see how arduous a task
Winning her affection would prove to be,
And two longing years have passed
Since she drifted away from me.
So now the time has come to submit
The final gesture of surrender
And once and for all admit
That nothing more than friendship will she render.
