Someone wrote, “Children learn what they live”. What kind of future do children have if their eyes see things that they shouldn’t see, and their ears hear what they shouldn’t hear? So, it behooves us to show the positive side of life, when we are around ones so young and innocent.

One so young,
One so innocent,
What should your eyes see?
What should your ears hear?

Should you see hate,
That could seal your fate?
No! Your eyes should see love,
That is as gentle as a dove.

Should your ears hear negativity,
Which could block your creativity?
No! Your ears should hear praise
And encouragement, to follow your
Dreams, no matter how hard they seems.

One so young,
One so innocent,
Your eyes, Your ears
Your brain, and your heart
are all a part of God’s
Gift, that makes you who
You are.

One so young,
One so innocent,
You should be protected
Not rejected or dejected
Because you were
Selected to be perfected,
By God.

Very moving poem. It is a tragedy that children are exposed to all the violence and negativity on TV, movies, and games. It seems that our culture no longer views childhood as a stage to be protected and nurtured.

You are absolutely right that the Children learn what they live, so upbringing is the most important factor.

You speak so much truth. We need to protect our children from the terrible things going on in the world today. It isn’t easy.
    A very good poem.

I\’ve been working with children for the longest time and it\’s such a gargantuan task to help them learn, re-learn and unlearn some of life\’s realities.

That’s right! You shout it out. Loud and long, sing it like a glorious song. They deserve the best until the day our souls rest.

    Awesome job!

Yes, i truly believe this. As parents, elders or seniors, we should always encourage the young ones & believe in them, so they can achieve their highest potential!!!

It’s a pity we can’t wrap children up in cottonwool and keep them protected but we cannot. We can only do the best we can to sheild them and let nature take it’s course.

    Hi, OhSugar,

Very beautiful poem you have here. The flow and sentence structure are impeccable (that being said without ingratiation); I love it-you create a sense of life\’s darkest alleyways and yet reduce them through the light of poetry.

Excellent work; I look forward to reading more.

    See you around!

Our children are our most precious commodity. They are our future. We are responsible for them and the world they will inherit. Thank you for speaking out on an issue so close to my heart. Beautiful poem.

I love this. I believe that our children are not protected enough, even from harmful parents. Our society treat them as if they are things, not little humans.

Treating them with respect at an early age will surely pay off in the future. They see and hear to much of adult materials.

Children need a lot of love. Loving them includes protecting them from as much negativity as possible. Keep supporting our children. Great!

so true. this is a beautiful write.

  • sincereone on May 12, 2009

I agree with pushing 40, children need a lot of love. It is shameful how parents are grownups do things or speak things that children should not see or hear. Good job!

  • stillovingu on May 13, 2009

Children are so special and they should be treated as such.
