At night time, my mind comes alive and I’m unable to sleep. Sometimes I sit outside and listen to the eerie sounds of the night. If you ever get the chance to sit outside in the dark for a few minutes after midnight, you’ll find that you’re listening to you’re own private orchestra – The Orchestra of the Night.

An airplane’s muffled engine as it slowly moves through the sky…
A distant vroom of a car as it casually passes by…
Crickets chirping happily as they sing into the dark…
A dog over a mile away letting out a high persistent bark…
The wind rustling through the leaves and briskly sweeping by me…
The flap of wings above me from a small bird nestled in the tree…
Wind chimes clashing together producing a melody of tenderness and might…
Dead leaves scraping along the ground as they are quickly pushed out of sight…
A small click of a switch that turns out the house’s illuminating light…
The constant ticking of a clock the continues way into the night…
A shriek of a bird hiding in the branches of the tallest tree….
The clankity-clank of a train as it leaves the station with its small company…
To the world these are just noises
Ignored or cursed with spite
But to me they are just music
A special orchestra of the night
So seat yourself in the open
In view of the starlit sky
And close your eyes and listen
As the music goes floating by

Nice piece. The title fits the poem perfectly. I don’t sit outside at night, but I do hear some of the night creatures making their sounds, some enjoyable, other are not. Thanks for sharing.
