though not the entire nail but quite deep, thumb a bit swollen and clumsy now, can only use for hitting the space bar.

True that it is better than broken heart. I just hope that it stops hurting very soon. I know the feeling so I feel for you. When I was little, I smashed one of my finger with brick and lost the entire nail, broke my nails and got them ripped from flesh many times since then … I usually kick off nails (both the small ones and big ones) on my feet though – happens several times a year …

It is not good if the thumb is swollen though …

I seem to be going through a spate of these misadventures lately – sounds like you need a holiday!

@Michal – i ever broke the entire nail of the mid-finger when i was much younger too.

Star, sorry to hear that you broke your thumb nail. I understand how painful it is. Whenever I broke my nails, I used to apply a cartoon sterile plastic plaster to cheer myself up a little bit. It may not be suitable at work, but no harm to use it at non-working hours. Hope you get well the soonest.

I loved your poem. It reminded me of how I broke my first finger nail on my left hand. All I did was take a top off of a can and it snapped off.
