We have had the most horrendous storms over the last two days.

Our First Big Winter Storm

Image via Wikipedia

Wild winds and torrential rain battered our country

As the biggest storm of the year hit today.

Warnings of extreme danger to those who ventured out

Kept everyone home watching the news in dismay.

Constant flood warnings were issued to all

While rivers worked so hard to cope

With the force of the water descending on them

People didn’t hold out much hope,

That their homes would be safe from the harm that would come

If the banks broke under the strain,

And as people climbed over the fallen trees

They could see the water being forced up by the drains.

A walker was blown off his feet by the wind

And waves lashed the coast with such force.

Trees fell on roads and cars were destroyed

As the storm continued on its course.

Little sleep was had as the rain pelted down

And windows rattled in the howling gale.

Flower tubs rolled and dustbins flew past

No match for a storm of this scale.

As morning arrived the wind died down

But there was still so much rain to come.

Who knows what will happen if it keeps up like this

The immediate future is looking quite glum.

It was such a terrible disaster! The disaster did cause damage, but will pray everyone is safe there.

My prayers go out to you and all the others involved. Nature can wreak havoc on our lives.

Mother nature is so unpredictable, the horror that she leaves behind is devastating. My prayers and best wishes to all who suffered, that they soon get their affairs back in order.
Very well written and descriptive piece of writing

You and your family will be in my prayers. I know what weathering a storm is like, we had one called Ivan in 2004.

  • Francois Hagnere on Nov 15, 2009

How terrible. Good thoughts are with you Christine and your family.
    Extremely well-written.

Our east coast got a good dose last week as well. Batten down and stay safe. Storms never last…dark clouds finally hide from the sun.

  • K.Reshma on Nov 15, 2009

A terrible disaster, will pray for you and everyone out there

  • Lady Sunshine on Nov 15, 2009

Mother nature in all her fury. Vividly describes the horrors of a storm. Stay safe.

Nice description. I don’t normally think of the poetic potential of news reporting, but it’s clearly possible as we see here. Hurry, call FOX news, but than can you shout at each other poetically.

Well written and loved the pics. So sorry to hear you are bearing the brunt of it. We are on the north east coast and have had beautiful calm sunny weather so far thank goodness.

  • Faith Hodge on Nov 15, 2009

Your poem is frightening. I followed you thru this. The reality afterward is unrelenting. Our snow and ice storm last winter was horrendous. Grace be with you.

  • mark ramsay on Nov 15, 2009

That is a great poem made from this terrible weather we are having. I have never seen so much rain.

  • Frances Lawrence on Nov 15, 2009

I hope your home was OK, our recycling bins flew down the road and we have lost a roof tile so the rain is coming in, but otherwise we are OK, our area survived with no major damage.

  • Debra. on Nov 15, 2009

Wow, that was a wild storm! The picture certainly bring the reality of devastation of the storm. Glad you’re okay, Christine!

  • Ruby Hawk on Nov 15, 2009

Christine, I hope ya’ll are ok. It sounds like what happened to us in September. My sister’s home was almost destroyed, and many homes and roads were washed away. Stay out of harms way.

  • LoveDoctor on Nov 15, 2009

Hope that you are okay. A very well-written poem on the storm.

  • Eunice Tan on Nov 15, 2009

Thank you for your concern everyone. Everything seems to have died down at last and there is no lasting damage where I live though I know there has been elsewhere. It is still raining, however. I don’t know where all this water is going to go.

I was cool about this storms that I never thought they could follow me here straight from the Philippines. But thanks they’re a bit gentle than what I’ve used to know. A lovely poem to describe it, Christine.

  • AlmaG on Nov 17, 2009

I can relate to this poem… After what happened, life still goes on, but in tragedies you the others share 3 common things and that’s love, care, and concern.

  • Ruby Hawk on Nov 17, 2009

Christine, I do hope the rain has stopped by now.

  • lillyrose on Nov 18, 2009

Wow Christine you and yours stay safe! I think we got the tail end of that storm but not nearly as bad as you!

  • Jane Jane on Nov 21, 2009

I can really relate with you though not experiencing this personally for two big storms just passed our country and so much damage has been done.

  • CA Johnson on Nov 21, 2009

We had storms here in New Jersey too so I know what you are going through, Christine. I hope all will get better soon.

  • CutestPrincess on Dec 6, 2009

Oh, hope that everything would be addressed soon.
