A narrative poem about the human heart, its potential and expression.
Our Greatest and Most Vulnerable Asset
By Tony DeLorger © 2011
Of all mysteries that life affords,
there is none greater than the human heart.
It can unleash the very depths of hell,
yet open the door to the heights of passion,
the exquisite throws of ecstasy.
It is fickle, stubborn and selfish,
yet it can honour the greatest of human aspirations,
the purest of ideals and selfless endeavours.
It is an enigma of potential,
a dichotomy of belief.
The heart of man can unlock latent forces
far beyond hope and parameter,
yet crumble so easily for love.
It is of cast steel, impenetrable and enduring,
yet of the flesh, defenceless and vulnerable.
It is the guide, the voice of human condition,
yet often silent in the revelations of personal truth.
The heart can see yet refuse to admit,
admit yet refuse to change.
The human heart is a mystery,
our greatest and most vulnerable asset.
