Poem for Shirley Harrison.

To  Shirley Harrison

I had wished to ask

If ever you have observed

That our planet is unkind

How often have you stopped

To think

About the fact

That our planet may be blind

In your solitude

Do you ever ponder

Why our planet

Can not understand

The language of her earthlings

When it releases its billows

Katrina is born

Our schools levelled

Our children killed

From our planet is mum

When our planet erupts

It brings forth fire

Stones and hot lava

Planet oblivious

Of our presence

We are buried alive

When its dams are unlocked

We humans submerged

Suffocated and drowned

Our planet

Does not

Raise a finger

SH

Were you to be a judge

Over the planet

What would your verdict be

Guilty

Not guilty

As court pleases

Our planet is deaf

    I don’t know where
    Shirley comes in
    As a judge
    But all I can say
    The planet is blind

    Coz

    On this planet
    Love is blind
Those born will in due course
    In love become blind
    As cataract catches up
    And
    Spreads like AIDS
Then what else will be left,
    In the corrupt hands
    Of Politicians
Who are as it is blind?
    The blind coins
    They wouldn’t know
    Of what value and kind,
    So help this planet
    Oh! Lord!
    And
    Relieve this planet
    Of blind
    Mankind
    Amen
