A poem about a head teacher I once worked for who we all thought was rather funny.

Now here is a tale that I must tell.
Just sit right there and listen well.
A strange man entered our school one day,
And changed our lives in many a way.

He was bright and brainy as could be,
And did all he could do, as you will see.
Whatever we wished, we had no doubt
This man would bring it all about.

He was kind and gentle and very funny,
And worked wonders with the school’s money.
For many years he was a valued treasure,
And spent endless hours bringing the children pleasure.

But for all these virtues some faults he had,
Though none of them were very bad.
He could be forgiven for the odd blunder,
We gave him a hard time, so it was no wonder.

This we felt was his most shocking vice.
He thought buxom blondes were very nice.
He turned to jelly when one came near,
And ran from his office, though why it’s not clear.

But we often wondered when we passed his door,
Why were there always women galore?
With muffins on trays and belly buttons pierced.
Perhaps they thought he was kind, not fierce.

Many talents he boasted had come his way
As he demonstrated to us one fine day.
Some photographs he took made us laugh and cough
Because every single one had our heads chopped off.

His assemblies, he was convinced, were truly inspiring
With drawings and stories which should not have been tiring.
But as he rattled on he totally ignored
All the staff as they sat on their chairs and snored.

He was also known as a builder supreme,
As he answered every teacher’s dream,
And classrooms, once so small inside,
Suddenly became very wide.

We think this was a devious plot,
Because class sizes seemed to grow a lot
But our head wouldn’t do that, we didn’t think
He was too nice a man the staff to hoodwink.

A better head we could not have desired
And soon came the time for him to be retired
But we always remembered that very first day
When he came to our school to show us the way.

This made me smile. Head teachers are frequently charming wonderful people, incredible in a pinch. We don’t mention their little ways too loudly. ;) Lovely poem, excellent tribute.

I loved the poem but felt a little apprehensive regarding the pictures with all of your heads lopped off! I hope it was done with a poor eye for visuals and not with a pair of scissors! :)
Actually, he sounded like a nice person who really cared about the school and everyone connected to it! :)

I can relate. Its so typical of us to only consider the worth of some one of some thing when we are on the verge of losing it. Nice write here.
