A poem about the start of a friendship that later bloomed into a wonderful romance.

It was just an ordinary day
when we first met -
no memorable occasion,
no fancy fanfare,
and no spectacular setting.

And when your eyes held mine,
they didn’t hold
any unusual sparkle.
nor any distinctive hint
that we’re meant to be together.
And my heart did not
skip a beat, nor run agog
over your indifference either.

That meeting was soon buried
beneath our hectic schedules -
you in your artistic pursuits,
and I in my writing endeavors.
Until one rainy day
I found you at my doorstep -
an umbrella in one hand,
a pizza box in the other,
and a lovable grin on your face.

“Someone told me
you love pizza on rainy days,”
you said smiling sheepishly.
That caught me off-guard,
and my heart missed a beat
before it went a little crazy
that I thought you’d hear
its erratic rhythm.

And before my mind
could argue or rationalize,
I was ushering you
into my living room,
apologizing for the mess
while putting the blame on my cat.

That fateful rainy afternoon
over pizza and tea,
we had undeniably started
to discover each other.
And since then, we have become
the best among best friends –
close and inseparable.

And over the years,
that friendship of ours
had laid the foundation
of what we now have -
a love affair like no other.

That’s a wonderful story. I think that’s how love should begin…slow and easy so it doesn’t burn out in a flash.

I’m with Ken Bultman, that was a simple, lovely and well written story. Enjoyable to read, with a really warm ending. I also agree with Ken that love can be better if it blossoms…..says the man who knew, along with his wife, two days after they met, that they’d end up rocking on the verandah together…. We were, how would you say, ‘mature students’ though…tee hee! Thanks for a lovely story, long may it continue.

As one song says, \’love always finds a way.” I wish you both happiness.

This is what I call real love, that which sdid not result from a star exploding in your face but rather you two made the star and then exploded it together. Wonderful story and may these two have and eternal happiness together. Michael
