The sting of the past may still lie in hibernation within the deepest areas of the subconscious.

Evil shadows from the past

are lurking

in the dark alleys

and deep recesses

of the mind -

haunting, menacing, threatening.

Painful memories

stemming from bad experiences -

long forgotten

and deeply buried

by the conscious mind

into the dimmest abyss

of the subconscious-

though seemingly forgotten,

completely gone, they’re not.

But merely in hibernation,

waiting for the slightest stimulation

that would trigger

the opening of a tunnel,

bringing out a deluge

of by-gone pains and sorrows

like a dormant volcano

lying in wait for the moment

it erupts and churns out

its molten deadliness.

I think the reason why painful memories never really go away so as to remind us of the lessons we learned out of it.

We all have ghosts and sometimes they can try and take over, but we must fight. Great piece!

Our painful memories help to make us the people we are. They help us to grow. Well done.

That’s true. Some things are never really so much forgotten as buried beneath layers of life and “stuff”.

    Thank you for that.
