A poem based on the famous painting “The Adoration of the Lamb” in Ghent, Belgium.

PALACE OF LIGHT

I prayed for light when rapt in trance

A gold dome rose to brush pure wings

Its bell tolled thrice; each note was code.

I melted through walls of marble and sun

A high born lamb let gush his blood

that mixed with tears for man’s torn grace.

He signed vast souls to sweep the earth

and bathe the poor in wells of red.
