Sorrowful and painful as past experiences are, they seem to be lessened by honest reflection.

Before reading this, reflect on your own past relationships and see if you can read these words for yourself as if they describe your feelings too.  Time will be someday be on your side, however you must first take that beginning step to remove yourself from what you know is not good for you.  Listen to those who know you best to help you take off the rose colored glasses and see the real truth of a damaging relationship.  You just might be in love with “Love” and not that person at all.

Passage into now”

Pulling back the memory of time

Won’t you reconsider and be mine?

Forever will I reflect on you and me

Of the grandeur that once, could be.

With solitude being mine from this date

I still think of so much, that I can relate.

Not withstanding all that left me here

Through the painful eyes I still peer.

Remembering the path that is behind

Things that were done giving me a sign

Telling me what my heart did not really see

Exactly how badly you were treating me

Each time I want, what I thought was love

Reality mentions sorrows fitting like a glove.

Getting on with all the rest of my life

I now get to eliminate all of that strife.

Then why does my yearning heart still dwell

On the memories before we said our farewell?

A poignant piece, Rob. And I agree with your description definitely. Thanks for the share!

Well expresed lines filled with emotions, Rob. I supposed 70 % of the world population is in loved with love but not the person as you put it. Watching a love film with a good ending oftentimes brings fulfillment to these repressed emotions.

I agree, honest reflection can always lessen the painful feeling. But, sometimes, people feel uncertain in their feelings, which always cause them experience a long-term painful disaster. Clicked you “liked it”

This was a piece really spoken from your heart and it gives the ones reading it a time of reflection. I sometimes think back on things I did in my past and now I wonder why I did them. I think it was a way for me to grow and mature as a person. Then there are the times I wonder what was I thinking back then.

I spent a bit of time pondering this line:

“Reality mentions sorrows fitting like a glove”

It is very lovely poetically, but it when I gave it some thought, I wonder if it means that we have kept our sorrow for so long that they are comfortable now. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

    Very poignant words.

I can definitely relate to this poem.

“With solitude being mine from this date” seems (to me) to attach an aloneness to this piece.
But memories are for remembering. They are what they are.

Roberta, I believe most of see our beloved differently until they reveal themselves. We enter into a relationship with certain expectations and when they are met or not met we determine whether to go or stay.

    Love dies…memories do not.

I agree with everyone here. I loved your poem. It really is great to have memories.

Excellent poem. Difficulty in letting go is the human flaw we all suffer from time to time.

Reflections through poetry is very effective. Thanks for a heartfelt look at life and it’s experiences.

Thank you for the great question to reflect on, “You just might be in love with “Love” and not that person at all.”… but of course, many, many times… but where would my mistakes, pain and suffering come from then? .. I don’t think I could write without them??? :O)

  • lillyrose on May 15, 2010

Thank goodness I have never been in this situation but if I was I hope I would have the strength to leave.
