A day at Grandma’s house.
Pathfinder and Boo Came to visit Gram one day.
Mama was and work, and Daddy had no time to play.
Pathfinder said, “Hi, Gram, I’m taller than you!”
Gram grinned and replied, “Not so hard to do!”
Pathfinder, Boo and Gram walked to the library.
Found books of fiction, history and mythology.
They brought their books home, then set out once more
With market bags and umbrellas walking to the store.
There they bought Miss Boo a brand new pair of shoes
Gossiped with the store clerk about the local news.
Also three English flutes to make a joyful noise
And two whirling noise makers they both could enjoy.
By this time, it was getting close to lunch
A visit to the grocery got good food to munch.
Fresh greens and dressing, tomatoes like a cherry,
Nothing can compare to a sweet ripe strawberry!
Home to lunch out on the lawn beneath the sycamore
With paper plates and napkins cleanup wasn’t any chore.
Back inside to read, and perhaps for Gram to write–
But some of us keep talking without an end in sight!
Gram’s editor didn’t like “how to make a rocking chair”.
Gram was working hard her article’s problems to repair.
Then she had an inspiration of what she could do
After all, a young girl’s dollies need furniture too!
Cereal boxes make good models; on one of them she drew
Patterns to make a rocking chair all brand spanking new.
She cut and bent and taped the cardboard to make a rocking chair
Boo painted it and soon her favorite dolly was sitting there!
Then came supper, a bedtime story, and finally worn out and fed
We sent the baby girl-child off to read in bed.
Gram and Pathfinder found some recorder sheet music online
“Liza’s bucket had a hole in it” looked like it would be fine.
Pathfinder and Gram sat down for some quality “just us” time.
Worked out finger-stops and notes, made some music sublime.
Then, he too, went on up to read his books in bed,
With strains of “Then fix it, dear Henry” dancing in his head.
Gram flopped down in a chair; while grandkids made her inspired,
It had been quite a while since she was this extremely tired!
