PENCIL AND PAPER
Pencil and paper,
a gift from the trees
used for self expression,
to set our thoughts free,
help us stay in touch
with friends and family;
to write, draw a picture
of what our dreams may be,
to show contrast and shadow,
lines, adjective or adverb,
expressions of self,
what thoughts may have occurred,
opinion, news, greetings,
visions, imagery;
all with pencil and paper;
a gift from the trees,
not oft thought about
but used every day,
list, notes, phone message,
the tools of my trade.
