March 14 (3/14), also known as Pi Day, is the flawless day to indulge in your favorite pie. To get your mouths watering, HuffPost Food has circled up some of the best pies known to mankind.

However, first a bit of history: Pi Day’s origins can be found back to 1989 in San Francisco. The day celebrates the arithmetical constant Pi (π), which begins with the digits 3.14. You can learn more about Pi Day and watch videos astir it here.

Pie and Pi Day has long been connected. After all, pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and pies are circular. Some take the association more gravely than others; that includes annual pie-eating and pie-baking encounters.

The holiday Pi Day has been officially recognized by the U.S. authorities since 2009 and some companies have special amounts today in honor of it, according to SlashFood. If you want to make your own pie for Pi Day, here’s a useful list of recipes.

Why was this published on Authspot when it’s more of a newsy item? (My guess: just because of its length?)
