The whole world is a playground.

Let’s go.

Let’s run as fast as we can and never look back,

Until we collapse and we have to just to see how far we’ve come.

Let’s do it all while we’re still young enough

And stupid enough

To believe that we can.

Fly across the globe.

March our path over the continents.

Find ourselves in a different country every day,

A different bed every night

For our exhausted bodies.

Hold my hand while we jump off the edge

So we can laugh when we come out of it alive,

And then I’ll drag you to the top again.

Make friends with strangers without a common language,

Just because we can.

Discover ourselves in the ancient cities of Peru,

Then get lost again on the way out of the mountains.

Float among starry lights.

Visit every museum in Europe

And giggle in the corners about models of penises with wings

And portraits of evil men beside sweet little dogs

Until the forthright guards scowl us from the room,

And we take refuge in a little cafe,

Or a crowded bar,

And emerge in the small ours feeling sick but alive.

We’ll talk about nothing long into the night,

Convincing ourselves of its true value,

As the whole of Russia, India or Mongolia

Whizzes past the window of a train

Carrying us deeper into our dreams.

Make a thousand mistakes in a hundred languages,

Eat food we wouldn’t feed the dog back home,

And forget where we are,

Or how long we’ve been there,

Or that we were supposed to call everyone back in the real world

So they know that we’re alive.

We’ll send a postcard

And take home a dozen sombreros in apology.

And we’ll fall in love with the adventure,

And with each other because we’re a part of it.

So when we finally resurface,

We’ll part ways at the airport with a sorrowful embrace,

Wishing it was the beginning not the end.

And we’ll still dream.

And when they ask about it

We’ll always say;

‘We were young, and the world was our playground.’
