We watch WAY too much television in my house… my little girl just loves it. But I’ve been noticing that we spend too much time with the TV on, not enough really being together. I had the Handy Manny theme song stuck in my head this morning and suddenly a few lines of this poem formed. It’s very rough, somewhat contrite, but it’s honest.

The Wiggles, Pooh and Mickey Mouse too

It sounds like a bad joke, it could be a ruse

But it’s actually the reason I’m loosing my mind

Too little silence, too much time.

You see, my child is addicted to the shows

The television is usually glued to her nose.

At first it meant a short, little reprieve

But now it indicates I’m just a bad mommy.

What child should be so enthralled with the TV?

They should be running around or reading or singing.

So I’ve determined to tell Disney we’re taking a rest

We’re shutting off the tube, and going to give it our best.

Good bye Manny and Rocket, Good Bye Little Einsteins

I’m taking back my family, and with it my mind.
