This poem is dedicated to my newly born daughter, Alana. In the poem, I express my feelings and hopes for her.

It feels so strange

So dreamatic

That only recently

I was a child; a toddler

But today

They say I am a father

Your father

Trust me

It’s not easy to change hats

I feel like King David

Teaching his child, Solomon

I feel like King Solomon

Nurturing Rehoboam

These words my daughter

I leave with you

Fear your creator

Respect the elderly

Love yourself

Love your friends

Love your books

Love your Bible

Refrain from evil

These dreams my child

I dream for you

Make the world a little better

Than you found it

Shine in everything you do

Let them learn

That from the east

Comes bright stars

These blessings my angel

I give to you

May the heavens

Smile at you

With a smile as sweet as yours

May the Creator

Keep you with the safety

Of your pink cot bed

Make daddy and mummy proud

Daddy loves you
