I wrote this poem for my sister who’s daughter was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma at the age of 13.
I dreamed one day she would be mine, I’d hold her close to me.
Like a wish it all came true and my girl soon would be.
Her birth was like a miracle, I held her and I cried.
She was my little angel, my world and my pride.
I held her precious little hands as she learned to walk.
I cried when she said mommy when she learned to talk,
One day of life without her, would give me such a fright,
I’d wake to watch her sleeping, almost every night.
She started school and looked so cute, my baby growing up.
From diapers to little underpants and bottles to a cup.
She learned to read and write her name, how it astonished me,
N, I, C, she consentrated… and did it O,L,E.
She rode a bike, and climbed a tree, and how she hated boys.
She was getting just way too mature, for all her little toys.
The barbies soon got replaced, for lip gloss and braided hair.
Make up, oh how big she was, her clothes now everywhere.
She’s someones little sister, she’s someones little girl,
She’s someones future wife, she’s someones special pearl.
She’s brave, she’s strong, and oh I know she’s more than I could be.
God, if I’ve ever asked anything.. please don’t take her from me….
