A poem now lost to me.

At 3 a.m. it moved through me-

Lines so full of pathos

That my dream self fell in love

And clung to them.

At 5:30 a.m. words are elusive.

Were they as beautiful as I remember?

I can relate to this. I don’t know about in dreams but I should carry a notebook with me and write down any inspirations I have before they are forgotten.

Thank you Dennis! I try to carry one with me most of the time–but this time I really did dream it and as is wont with dreams–forgot it

Yes, they probably were. My most beautiful words are quick to flee.

All my poems emanate during morning dreams
like its a gift of morning wood
    sharpen it like a pencil
    and emerge it as poetry.

I think we have all had a similar experience. We are never quite sure of what we lost.

I know that feeling. I often forget words that I had really thought would work so well in a poem.

Great poem, I often wake from a dream to find I have no writing material and by the time I find it I have forgotten what it was I wanted to write down :)

A great poem Audrey and yes I also can relate to this one. Maybe we should have on hand a note pad and pen.
    Take care.

Oh my how you hit the nail on the head with this short and simple piece. How many times do we awake, only to scratch our heads and wonder what we just bore witness to. You wrote an extremely riveting and thought provoking poem.
