Multiple Rockets of Desire

Lord God,

I reach out to you in reverent prayer.

As we go through life

Sometimes we encounter

a bump in the road

that gives us pause.

Perhaps it is someone

who treated us in an adverse way.

Perhaps it is me, myself, and I

who somehow lapsed

into treating one of my sisters

or one of my brothers

one of your many children

in an adverse way.

Perhaps it is an unsought

and seemingly uninvited circumstance

that is perceived to be troubling

in some manner.

In this time of seeming trouble,

as one spiritual teacher

has been heard to say,

a rocket of desire has been sent out

seeking clarity or release or heart’s ease.

One rocket might be filled

with the desire to know WHY

a certain thing happened in the way it did.

Another rocket might be filled

with the desire to know WHEN

a much desired result

is due to happen

or WHEN an uncomfortable situation

might no longer be or feel uncomfortable.

Another rocket might be filled

with the desire to understand

WHY ME

when something anxiety-promoting

has happened.

Another rocket might be filled

with the desire to understand

WHY NOT ME

when something wished for

did not happen

in the way it was wished to happen

or it did not happen at all.

All these rockets of desire

get sent out day after day

or in the wee hours of the night.

You, Lord God,

in your perfect wisdom

and with your perfect timing

know when the moment has come

for that moment of clarity

is ready to be hatched, to be born.

Perhaps it is you, Lord God,

stating, “Dear One,

this thing that you think you want

would not serve you well.

So for your own greater good,

the answer is no.”

Perhaps it is you, Lord God,

stating, “Dear One,

you have now grown enough

that you can now handle with ease,

with grace, with skill,

what before would have left you

feeling overwhelmed and overwrought.

Perhaps it is you, Lord God,

stating, “Dear One,

here at last is the answer

you have been seeking.

The door is now open.
The windows thrown wide.

Come in. Stay awhile.

Make yourself at home.

Rejoice in this beautiful gift

that is now yours to behold,

to make use of,

to revel in,

to rejoice in.

Welcome, Dear One,

the fullness of time

has ripened you to it

and it to you.”

I think that when we read words

that resonate

or hear words that resonate

or get those sudden epiphanies

when things suddenly make sense

and has a feeling of rightness,

It is God’s way of

yielding an answer

to one of those many

rockets of desire.

Some rockets may come back

with fulfilling answers

in a manner of minutes.

Some may take a few days.

Some may take a few weeks

or months

or even years.

It is our job to stay open,

to stay receptive.

When the time is right

and also ripe

the answer to each and every

rocket of desire will come.

I think you, Lord God,

for the beauty and clarity

of this wondrous gift.

Omniscient, all knowing.

Omnipresent, everywhere,

The great I AM.

I thank you.

My heart filled with gratitude

for my wonderfully

ever-expanding life.

Thank you. I thank you

from the bottom of my heart.

In the wee hours of this night

I feel fully at peace.

What a beautiful gift that is.
